On the 14th of February on Marquee TV Figaro in the City, a retelling of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro et une approche réinventée de l’opéra.
Figaro in the City is a modern-day retelling of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro de Mozart : une folle journée pleine de péripéties heureuses ou malheureuses qui conduisent à une des scènes finales les plus émouvantes de l’histoire de l’opéra. Les jeunes chanteurs de l’atelier lyrique d’Opera Fuoco investissent la large scène qu’est Paris, ses ateliers d’artistes, ses rues, ses jardins. Le tournage en playback leur permet de s’engager théâtralement en respectant les mesures sanitaires qui s’imposent. La caméra s’intègre dans l’histoire comme un personnage, réagissant à chaque situation. Les instrumentistes et le chef d’orchestre laissent place petit à petit aux seuls chanteurs qui deviennent les personnages, passant de la répétition à la fiction.
Like with any television series, each episode of Figaro in the City was created to heighten the dramatic tension of the plot and to leave the audience waiting to see what happens next, all the while remaining faithful to Mozart’s original score. Conductor David Stern collaborated with videographer and stage-director Alexandre Camerlo to forge the artistic direction of this contemporary adaptation of an 18th-century classic. Special thanks to Laurent Naouri for joining the Opera Fuoco Young Artists in his debut performance as Bartolo.
