Bach Stagioni – Bach
ABOUT
Nature was an inexhaustible source of inspiration and a veritable muse for artists and composers in the 18th century, inspiring their creativity and profoundly influencing their works. Johann Sebastian Bach was no exception. We find some of his finest works in the vast cantata repertoire which follows both the liturgical year and the cycle of seasons and festive occasions. In his music, the elements of nature become characters in their own right. The rough winter gives way to gentle of spring, and the joy of summer is transformed into gloomy autumn.
Like the seasons, the arias follow one another, reflecting human nature as it passes through a multitude of emotions. The sinfonias, like opera backdrops, punctuate and frame this theatrical program.
