West Side Story – Bernstein

This American masterpiece, inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, is set in the Upper West Side of the 1950s Manhattan and retraces the impossible love story of Tony and Maria, each belonging to rival gangs, the Polish Jets and immigrant Puerto Rican Sharks.

With an iconic musical score by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, West Side Story is a unique blend of musical theater, opera and dance. David Stern and Opera Fuoco’s young artists present this semi-staged production after musical performances at the Mona Bismarck American Center and the Bal Blomet jazz club in Paris during the previous season.
