When we think of Italian Baroque opera, the first things that come to mind are vocal virtuosity, elaborate ornamentation, and endless brilliant coloratura. However, this richly expressive style varied from region to region. Handel's virtuosic vocal writing is completely different from that of Vivaldi or Porpora. This masterclass will be led by Italian mezzo-soprano Anna Bonitatibus, who has lent her voice to some of the most demanding roles in the Baroque repertoire. The soloists of the Opera Fuoco Young Artists Program will thus tackle some of the most virtuosic scores ever written for an era when castrati reigned supreme in the world of opera.
