Puccini – La Rondine

Petit Palais (Auditorium) - November 10th - 3.30 PM

Composed between 1914 and1916, during the early years of WW1, this score remains rarely heard despite its confirmed beauty. The subject matter contrasts sharply with the context within which it was written. With a nod to the Belle Époque and the glamour of the Cote d’Azur. La Rondine (The Swallow) recounts the story of Magda, still smitten with Ruggiero, the lover of her younger days. Unlike the heroine of Traviata, Magda decides to abandon her romantic notions and flies freely like a swallow to her former life. In sharp contrast to the horrors of war, Puccini’s music is like a testament to the arts, a delicate flower amidst the chaos and brutality of war.

David Stern and Opera Fuoco bring the formidable Inva Mula to lead this masterclass and the members of Opera Fuoco Young Artist Program in the principal roles of this delightful score.
